Q. When did Skyak Adventures start operating?
A. We started the company in 2000 but before that Gordon Brown was working as a freelance instructor around the world. In 2000 we were one of the very few companies in the UK specialising in sea kayaking
Q. Where are you based?
A. We are in Lower Breakish on the Isle of Skye, right on the water’s edge. We send out detailed directions on booking as SatNav will take you on tracks which are not roads. The whole village has the same postcode. You can also find us by searching for Skyak Adventures on Google maps.
Q. What facilities do you have?
A. We have a custom built base with office, classroom, toilet, shower store and drying room, not to mention the amazing Hot Tub.
Q. Can I rent/hire kayaks and equipment separately from Skyak Adventures?
A. No, our kayaks and equipment are reserved for people booked on our courses. If you want to rent or hire kayaks for your own use we can put you in touch with someone who can help, however there is no-one in the local area that rents out sea sea kayaks.
Q. What kayaks do you have?
A. We have composite kayaks by Valley, North Shore, Rockpool, Nigel Dennis, Tiderace, Arrow & Tahe and a few rotomoulded ones. They are all single sea kayaks.
Q. What other equipment do you supply?
A. Werner paddles, Reed Chillcheater paddling tops and spraydecks, Reed or Peak buoyancy aids, wet boots, dry bags and almost everything else needed for a successful course.
Q. Do you only do training courses?
A. No, we run everything from a one day introductory tour to five day expeditions. Skills based courses can include an expedition element and all expeditions will include skills development.
Q. How do I choose the correct course for my skill level?
A. By being completely honest with us about your kayaking experience, you will be either guided towards the most suitable course or we will make your bespoke one.
Q. Is there a lower age limit for children?
A. Children from the age of 12 are able to come kayaking with us, provided they are accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Q. Why do you not have an online booking form?
A. With all of our courses being tailor made, we have to take a much more personal approach to bookings to ensure you get the best, and most appropriate, kayaking experience with us.
Q. Is booking necessary? / How do I book?
A. Yes, booking is essential, especially for groups, as we tend to get booked up in advance, though we do occasionally have last minute availability. Please email, firstname.lastname@example.org, or call us on the phone, +44 (0)1471 820002, to start with and we can work together to make your dream course.
