If you do just one major sea kayaking trip in your life time, it has to be St Kilda. So says The Outer Hebrides Sea Kayak Guide, and it is impossible not to agree! It is a place where superlatives are inadequate to describe the scale and grandeur of this small group of islands that feel very much on the edge of the world. We usually run two trips to St Kilda every year, so the opportunities to sea kayak here are limited. We stay on the MV Cuma run by Island Cruising, which is perfect for this kind of trip. The skipper knows the seas around St Kilda intimately and drops us off and picks us up in the best locations to get the most out of your visit to this dual world heritage site.
Below is a small gallery of images from one of our trips to give you an idea of the scale of St Kilda. With the largest cliffs and sea stacks anywhere in the UK, and literally thousands of birds swirling overhead. The caves are cathedral like in size, and there are tunnels and cracks that take you right through small islands.
We stay on the Cuma for the duration of the trip, taking in other islands in the Outer Hebrides as the weather allows. It is possible to paddle as much or as little as you like and non-paddling partners are welcome. The Cuma gives us the flexibility this location demands, fully catered, berthed in twin cabins, she makes the perfect cruising base to explore.
If you have an interest in Sea Kayaking in this spectacular location, please let us know with the form below. We usually fill these trips from pre-existing enquiries, so contact us soon if you are interested.
2017 Dates - In late August 2016 we emailed those who had already expressed an interest and two weeks later all the places had gone. Not sure if it's the great value basic price of £985 pp and/or our reputation but we are amazed the trips have filled so quickly.
