There is something about kayaking along the rugged coast of Skye that is almost impossible to put into words..... but we thought we would try!

We have a number of routes we use that make a superb day paddle. On the East of Skye, the distant views of Knoydart and Loch Hourn offer a classic Highland landscape, it is often more sheltered on this side of Skye so there is always somewhere spectacular we can paddle in most conditions. Paddling from Elgol, there is the jaw dropping grandure of the Cuillin ridge, one of the finest mountain views in Scotland. Less known though are the basalt columns in the north of Skye that rival anything found on Staffa, or the islands in Loch Bracadale that lead out towards the MacLeod's Maidens sea stacks, or Spar cave with its magnificent flowstone staircase.

"A favourite of ours is to paddle from Ord on the West side of the Sleat Peninsula, past the ruins of the Dun Sgathaich Castle, where you can often see otters, and on a calm day you can see sea urchins and star fish on the sea floor meters below your kayak. Paddling back up the loch you can land on the coral Island and hold in your hand the tiny pieces of coral that give the island its name. The scenery all around is breath taking, and all in complete silence far away from the tourist spots on Skye. This modest route is accessible to novice paddlers in good conditions and is as good as any day's paddle in the whole of Scotland. It will leave you with a lasting memory of the peace and beauty of the Isle of Skye."

We choose our route on the day to suit the conditions and the kayaking experience of the group. All the guides at Skyak know the best places to spot wildlife, seals pop up all over the place, but sea eagles and otters are not uncommon. They will also help you improve your paddling skills as you go along, to help you get the most out of your day, paddle with confidence in the conditions and around the rocks and caves you discover. Our guides are among the most experienced and qualified group of kayak leaders you will find anywhere, they love to share their enthusiasm for sea kayaking and the unique view of the world it allows.
